Apothecary - Rad. Iris
Rad. Iris from the plant family N.O. Iridaceae. An extract of this plant was used medicinally as a cathartic or laxative and as a treatment for dropsy.
This jar is handpainted using underglazes on porcelain. The design is consistent with those found on 19th century apothecary jars. The terminology used is what would have been found on apothecary jars of the era.
